About Bagni di Lucca

Known for its thermal hot springs, Bagni di Lucca was an ancient Roman settlement that rose to prominence in the middle ages as a popular destination for Lucca’s wealthy families. During the Renaissance and through the 19th century, the nobility of the region built grand summer residences near the baths, which became guest houses for illustrious visitors from all over Europe. The town also opened Europe’s first casino in 1837, a beautiful building today used to host private and public events.

Bagni di Lucca has a number of lively bars, cafés and restaurants, and benefits from a thermal spa located just a five-minute stroll from the apartment. In the summer months, you can while away a pleasant day at the beautiful municipal swimming pool, located fifteen minutes walk away. A number of vineyards that offer tours and wine tasting are dotted around within a short drive of the town, or by train and/or taxi.

Bagni di Lucca can be reached within an hour of Pisa airport, or one hour and ten minutes from Florence airport. The popular beach at Viareggio is a 55-minute drive, and winter skiing in the Appenine mountain resort of Abetone within just 50 minutes. The gorgeous walled medieval city of Lucca, with its ancient towers, fabulous restaurants and lively street markets, is only 25-minutes away. Although having a car makes it easier to access the town and surrounding attractions, Bagni di Lucca can also be reached in 35 mins from Lucca via train, or 1 hour 22 mins from Pisa Airport. From Lucca, onward connections will take you to Pisa, Florence, and Viareggio.
