Getting around
Trains run from Bagni di Lucca directly to Pisa Centrale station, and take about one hour. Connecting trains from Pisa Centrale to the airport run every few minutes and take about 8 mins.
While staying in Bagni di Lucca, you can use the train services for easy day trips Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Viareggio, as well as to the very pretty town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. From Pisa, intercity train services also connect to Genoa, Grosseto, La Spezia, Livorno, Milan, Turin, and Rome.
Local buses also run frequently from Ponte a Serraglio, 2 minutes walk from the apartment, with services running to Lucca, as well as to the surrounding picturesque hilltop villages.
While not necessary by any means, hiring a car does make exploring the area easier. Cars can be hired from Pisa or Florence airport, or in Lucca. There is no private parking, but free on-street parking is generally available within a few metres of the building. If using an electric vehicle, there is an EV charging point in Ponte a Serraglio, about 5 minutes walk from the apartment. EV charging points are also available in the centre of Bagni di Lucca, where the majority of shops, bars and restaurants are also to be found.
For those without a car, taxi services are available in Bagni di Lucca; e.g. in case you want to visit a local vineyard, or book a ride back to the apartment if returning home late from the train station.
Alternatively, if you’d like to explore the area on two wheels, there is a local business that arranges e-bike tours and excursions into the hills. Lucca also has a several shops where bicycles and e-bikes can be hired for the day.
Language
Though having some Italian is certainly useful (and appreciated by the locals!) most people working in the bars, restaurants and shops in Bagni di Lucca speak some (or even fluent) English. The town is a popular spot for visitors from around the world, and so is used to welcoming non-Italian speakers.
Welcome to our family home!
Finally, a gentle reminder to prospective guests that Casa Caterina is, first and foremost, a family home. We love to let others stay here and use it as a base to discover this wonderful corner of Italy, but we ask that our guests remember they are staying in our home, and treat it accordingly. Benvenuti!
